The 1987 Australian Nugget 1oz gold bullion coin is from the second year of issue for the popular Australian Nugget gold coin series, which has transitioned into the Kangaroo series of gold coins. The 1987 edition was the first bullion version of the series.
The reverse features an image of the Welcome Stranger gold nugget with “WELCOME STRANGER 1869” situated underneath. Around the rim of the coin are the words “THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET 1OZ . FINE GOLD . 1987”
The obverse features the Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with “AUSTRALIA . 100 DOLLARS . ELIZABETH II” around the effigy.
