The Perth Mint is proud to present this silver coloured coin commemorating the Battle of the Somme, perfect for veterans, historians, and collectors.
The Battle of the Somme refers to a series of actions between 1 July and 18 November 1916 in which more than one million men were wounded or killed. Australian troops, Gallipoli veterans and fresh reinforcements, arrived on the Somme in mid-July to support the British attempt to capture the high ground towards the village of Thiepval.
The British Empire lost 430,000 casualties in the fighting on the Somme, while the French lost 200,000. The German Army also suffered appallingly, incurring 650,000 casualties and inheriting a tired and dispirited military force that would never fully recover.

Also edged lettering is featured around the coin’s rim with the words, “PRIDE • RESPECT • GRATITUDE”.
