2020 Australia Zoo Series – Sumatran Tiger 1oz .999 Silver Bullion Coin

The beautiful but critically endangered Sumatran tiger is featured on these 2020 silver investment coins and is the first in the Australia Zoo series. With guaranteed precious metal content and quality, these investment coins are struck to the Royal Australian Mint’s brilliant uncirculated finish. The Sumatran tiger is the rarest of all tiger subspecies, found only on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. They are the smallest of the tigers with males weighing an average of 120kg. They can be distinguished by the heavy black stripes on their orange coats. Their habitat is diverse ranging from mountain to sea-level forests.

With their native habitat greatly reduced and under threat from poaching, Sumatran tigers are listed as critically endangered. Fewer than 400 individuals are estimated to remain in the wild. The Australia Zoo, located at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, has an active project underway to conserve the beautiful but vulnerable Sumatran tiger, aiming to protect the species for the future. A number of Sumatran tigers live at the Australia Zoo, where they help to raise awareness and funds, and contribute to global understanding of the species.

Struck by Royal Australian Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has a mintage of 25,000.

DESIGN

The reverse features the most elegant and graceful Sumatran Tiger walking in water. The reverse also features the inscriptions “AUSTRALIA ZOO”, “SUMATRAN TIGER” as well as the weight and fineness.

The obverse features the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and the 2020 year-date.

Each coin is presented in a protective capsule. Multiples of 10 are presented in a sealed roll.
