People have been fascinated by trees since… ever. Trees provide us with many benefits necessary for survival, including clean air, filtered water, shade, and food. They also give us hope and courage to persevere – even in the harshest conditions. Roots buried deep in the earth, trunk above the ground, branches stretching toward the sky, are symbolic, living links between our world and the world of supernatural beings.

Strong connections between people and trees can be found in almost every religion, mythology, legends and traditions. Their physical nature and composition is often a base for stories full of magic and supernatural abilities. In many myths, a tree is a vital part of the structure of the universe. Gods and their messengers travel from world to world by climbing up or down a tree. The trees have been on earth long before people and possibly will be present long after we go… As a tribute to the power and mysticism of trees, Germania Mint is launching a series of 4 dedicated coins. Oak, Chestnut, Beech and Linden leaves will be the theme of these series.

FOURTH AND FINAL COIN IN THE SERIES – BEECH LEAF

Introducing the fourth and final coin in the Mythical Forest series, a tribute to the power and mysticism of trees. The beech tree is a symbol of divine wisdom and law, as well as longevity. Its crown was believed to be inhabited by Svarog, the Slavic god of fire and sunlight, which was confirmed by the tree’s resistance to lightning strikes.

Consuming the young leaves of the beech tree and its fruits, one fell into a state of intoxication, which allowed one to calm down, get rid of unnecessary thoughts, which in turn was supposed to facilitate contact with the deity. In the shade of the tree’s sizable crown, people spent time talking to the god, which is why statues were erected under the beech tree, burial shrines were built, and barrows were spread.

DESIGN

The obverse of the Germania Mint coin shows a beech leaf and its flower, the fruit of which was used to induce hallucinations. Also includes the inscriptions “BEECH LEAF” as well as the weight and purity.

The reverse depicts the Germania Mint effigy of a double-headed eagle holding lightning bolts in either claw, symbolizing the past and the future. Also includes the inscriptions “GERMANIA”, the monetary denomination and 2023 year-date.

Each 2023 Beech Leaf 1oz silver bullion coin is provided in a protective capsule that is accompanied by certificate of authenticity. Certificate of authenticities are NOT numbered.
