2026 $2 Dawn Service ‘C’ Mintmark Coloured Coin in Card
Though its exact origins are disputed, the dawn service is known to have occurred in some form for more than a century. It has become an integral part of ANZAC Day in Australia, with tens of thousands of people – service personnel and civilians alike – attending services across the country in a sprit of remembrance and reflection.
A typical dawn service includes a commemorative address, laying of wreaths, playing of military bugle calls, and a one or two minute period of silence. Some services also include the mounting of a catafalque party, an armed guard of four personnel which attends to a catafulque (traditionally a platform containing a coffin, but it may be represented by a shrine). The traditional bugle calls are “Last Post” and “Reveille”, which are played before and after the period of silence respectively.
The Royal Australian Mint commemorates the dawn service with this stunning coin design. The sun rising over the ocean is coloured printed and beautifully complements the aluminium bronze background.
Struck by the Royal Australian Mint from AlBr, these $2 coins are issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and have a mintage of 100,000.
DESIGN
The reverse of the coin features a striking representation of the dawn service of gathering crowds paying their respects, including the sun rising over the ocean in coloured print – as well as the ‘C’ mintmark for Canberra, the place of minting. Also includes the inscription “DAWN SERVICE – LEST WE FORGET”.
The coin’s obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, the monetary denomination and the 2026 year-date.
PRESENTATION
Each coin is presented in capsule in a sombre coloured ANZAC Day themed presentation card.
