2022 $100 Lunar Year of the Tiger 1oz .9999 Gold Bullion Coin
Swan Bullion is proud to present the Royal Australian Mint’s third release in its Lunar Investment Series – gold and silver investment coins celebrating the Lunar Year of the Tiger. They follow the successful Year of the Rat coins in 2020 and Year of the Ox coins in 2021. Honouring the Chinese zodiac, the series has proved popular at home and abroad.
HISTORY & SIGNIFICANCE
The Chinese zodiac is based on the lunar calendar and features 12 animals that represent each year in a 12-year cycle. A popular system across south-east Asia, each animal of the Chinese zodiac and its characteristics are said to influence people born in the corresponding year. The Royal Australian Mint created a new investment series based on the Chinese zodiac with the inaugural release – the Lunar Year of the Rat – selling quickly when it hit the market in 2020. Success followed in 2021 with the Lunar Year of the Ox investment coins, with the series considered original and innovative in an otherwise saturated bullion market.
Struck by the Royal Australian Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold, each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The Royal Australian Mint will release no more 5,000 of these coins world wide with a limited amount circulating through the Australian market.
DESIGN
The reverse features the tiger standing on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by pine branches that represent the strength the original ‘Charmer’. The Chinese character “虎” for tiger is prominently displayed with “Year of the Tiger” as well as the weight and purity being inscribed.
The obverse bears the Lunar calendar wheel, rotated so that the Tiger is shown at the top, along with the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The monetary denomination as well as the 2022 year-date is also presented on the obverse.
PRESENTATION
Each bullion coin is presented in a protective capsule.
