2022 $100 Daintree Rainforest 1oz Gold Coloured Proof Domed Coin
The Royal Australian Mint is proud to present the second release in its Beauty, Rich & Rare series, which celebrates Australia’s phenomenal natural wonders. The Daintree Rainforest Gold Coloured Proof Domed Coin follows the successful release of the first coin in the series featuring the Great Barrier Reef.
The Daintree Rainforest in Tropical North Queensland is the world’s most ancient rainforest, estimated to be 180 million years old. So impressive is the forest, Sir David Attenborough called it ‘the most remarkable place on Earth’. It covers approximately 1,200 square-kilometres.
Declared a World Heritage Listed site in 1988, the Daintree is home to a remarkably diverse population of wildlife, insects and birds, including 30 per cent of Australia’s frog, reptile and marsupial species and 90 per cent of Australia’s bat and butterfly species.
Home to the Daintree River, visitors to the rainforest can spot saltwater crocodiles on a river cruise or undertake one of the many hikes to immerse themselves in the forest.
Struck by Royal Australian Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has a mintage of 750.
DESIGN
The reverse of coin features a depiction of the Daintree Rainforest. It also features the inscriptions “DAINTREE RAINFOREST”, “BEAUTY, RICH & RARE” as well as the coins monetary denomination and 2022 year-date.
The coin’s obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark as well as the weight, fineness and metal.
