Atlantis / Poseidon 1oz .999 Silver Bullion Antiqued Round
The tales of the great civilization of Atlantis are a staple of Western mythology. It was supposedly “lost” during antiquity, and the idea of the Lost City of Atlantis has fascinated readers ever since.
Passed along through the oral traditions of the time, stories of this heroic rebel have been spread far and wide since the fourteenth century.
This is the first release in the Mythical Cities series.
DESIGN
The reverse of the round depicts Poseidon, known as the god and ruler of the seas in Greek mythology. Poseidon is shown in full regalia and in exquisite detail. In addition to donning his undersea armour, he wears a crown and holds his traditional trident (three-pronged spear). Fish and an ionic-style temple can be seen in the background. Seashells and squids fill the outer rim design, separating the inscriptions “POSEIDON” at the bottom and “OCEAN EMPEROR” at the top.
On the obverse, a view of the mythological ruins of Atlantis, the undersea city, is shown. Sharks, stingrays, and other aquatic life can be seen swimming among the city’s ancient buildings and ionic columns. A school of jellyfish are visible in the background while a whale passes by the city’s central rotunda. The inscriptions “THE LOST CITY OF” and “ATLANTIS” are divided between the top and bottom rim.
The coin has slight reliefing and an antiqued finish.

I always said that I’d never buy any antiqued silver coins because I just didn’t like the look but… when I saw the amount of detail on the front and back of this coin I knew that I had to have it for my collection. I really like it!
