2016 Year of the Monkey 1kg Silver Coin

Celebrate the Year of the Monkey with with this stunning 1kg silver coin from The Perth Mint, honouring the 9th animal in the 12-year Chinese zodiac.

The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar monkey include 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, and 2016 with those born under the influence of this sign said to be intelligent, quick-witted, optimistic, ambitious, and adventurous.

Meticulously struck from 99.9% pure silver, the coins are issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

DESIGN

The reverse depicts an adult monkey and a baby monkey sitting in a peach tree. The baby is holding a peach, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The obverse of the coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the weight and fineness, and the monetary denomination.

ABOUT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint, located in Perth, Western Australia, is one of the oldest and most prestigious mints in the world, with a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century.
