2016 Year of the Monkey 1oz Gold Coin

2016 celebrates the ninth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, the monkey.

The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar monkey include 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016 and 2028. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be intelligent, quick-witted, optimistic, ambitious, and adventurous.

Meticulously struck from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold, this coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

DESIGN

The reverse of the coin depicts an adult monkey sitting on a branch of a peach tree, which is symbolic of longevity and immortality. The Chinese character for ‘monkey’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Monkey’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

This coin’s obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, fineness, 2016 year-date and monetary denomination.

ABOUT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint, located in Perth, Western Australia, is one of the oldest and most prestigious mints in the world, with a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century.
