2026 $2 Dawn Service ‘C’ Mintmark Coloured Silver Proof Coin
On ANZAC Day every year, dawn services across the country commence in the early hours of the morning. Well-known dawn services include the service at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra and the Currumbin RSL service at Elephant Rock, Queensland. Dawn services are also held at key commemorative sites overseas, including Gallipoli and Port Moresby.
The time of day mirrors the dawn landing of the ANZACs on the Gallipoli peninsula in 1915, and reflects the broader significance of dawn during World War I.
With dawn being a favourable time to mount offensives, soldiers would gather in the darkness before dawn and prepare for an attack, in what is known as the dawn ‘stand-to’.
The Royal Australian Mint commemorates the dawn service with this stunning coin design. The vast crowd of people represents the many Australians who gather together, year after year, for this time-honoured tradition.
Each coin is struck by the Royal Australian Mint from 8.55g of 99.9% pure silver and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The Royal Australian Mint will release no more than 10,000 of the 2026 $2 Dawn Service ‘C’ Mintmark Coloured Silver Proof Coin.
DESIGN
The reverse of the coin features a striking representation of the dawn service of gathering crowds paying their respects, including the sun rising over the ocean in coloured print – as well as the ‘C’ mintmark for Canberra, the place of minting. Also includes the inscription “DAWN SERVICE – LEST WE FORGET”.
The coin’s obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, the monetary denomination and the 2026 year-date.
PRESENTATION
Each coin is presented in a protective capsule displayed inside of a presentation case accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
