2026 Heart and Soul of Australia Uncirculated Coin
The United Nations has designated 2026 as the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP). In celebration of IYRP, the Royal Australian Mint presents a splendid new $1 uncirculated coin.
Rangelands cover about 75% of Australia’s landmass, and span many different types of environments – woodlands, grasslands, shrublands, deserts and tropical savannahs. They include incredibly diverse landscapes, such as the Pilbara in WA, the vast Red Centre, the Barkly Tableland in the NT, and the Channel Country extending from Queensland. With the vast space they occupy in both a physical and cultural sense, our rangelands are very much the heart and soul of the nation.
Our rangelands also hold significant economic value. Roughly a third of Australia’s livestock graze there, and the mining and tourism industries also generate significant value. Critical to the sustainable management of the land are Australia’s pastoralists, who are known by many different names: graziers, producers, stockmen and stockwomen, jackaroos and jillaroos, to name a few.
This 2026 $1 Uncirculated Coin celebrates Australia’s rangelands and pastoralists.
Struck by the Royal Australian Mint from AlBr, these $1 coins are issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and have a mintage of 40,000.
DESIGN
The reverse of the coin features a design representing Australian rangelands and pastoralism by Mint coin designer Adam Ball. Also includes the inscriptions “RANGELANDS AND PASTORALISTS”.
The coin’s obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, monetary denomination and the 2026 year-date.
PRESENTATION
Each coin is presented encapsulated in a presentation card, which features original artwork by Mint coin designer Elyssa Waterford.
