This 1oz silver bullion coin marks 150 years since the discovery of the Welcome Stranger gold nugget.
The world famous Welcome Stranger nugget is the largest-known alluvial gold nugget ever found, estimated to weight a total of 72 kilos and containing almost 2,300oz of gold. After its discovery in 1869 it sold for about 10,000 British pounds, which is the equivalent to millions of dollars today.
The nugget was discovered near the Victorian goldfields town of Moliagul by John Deason on 5 February 1869.
Struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
No more than 30,000 of the Welcome Stranger 2019 1oz Silver Bullion Coin will be released.

The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the 2019 year-date, and the coins’ weight and fineness are also included in the reverse design.
