Diwali is the ancient Hindu ‘festival of lights’. Celebrated by millions of people in India and all around the world, the five-day festival represents the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. The annual event marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year in October or November, with the date changing in accordance with the Hindu lunar calendar.
Rituals practiced during Diwali include cleaning and decorating homes with oil lamps called diyas, family feasts, gift-giving, fireworks and sweets are other long-established customs. Participants also pay homage to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and the elephant headed Ganesha, the god of good fortune.
DESIGN
The reverse of the bar features an elegant depiction of Lakshmi seated gracefully atop lotus flowers, cradling them in her hands. Before her rests a bowl brimming with coins, symbolizing abundance, while additional coins cascade from her open palm and a vessel by her side. The divine scene is framed by ornately adorned pillars, each embellished with hanging lamps that enhance the aura of prosperity and reverence. Also included in the design is The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The bar’s obverse features The Perth Mint’s logo with a floral motif patterned background. Also included in the design is the bar’s weight and fineness.
The minted bar incorporates authentication features. In the form of multiple micro-laser engraved letters, they are only detectable under a magnifying glass.
PRESENTATION
Each minted bar is housed in tamper-evident packaging which will display the word VOID around the edge of the blister if the card has been prized open.

ABOUT THE PERTH MINT
The Perth Mint, located in Perth, Western Australia, is one of the oldest and most prestigious mints in the world, with a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century. It was established in 1899 as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint in response to the discovery of rich gold deposits in Western Australia.
