2010 Kookaburra 1oz Silver Coin

A common guest of residential Australian gardens, the kookaburra is the largest member of the kingfisher species.

Devoted to other family members, kookaburras gather at dusk and dawn to declare territorial boundaries with shrill, cackling laughs. Having first heard the call of the Australian Kookaburra in 1990, investors have been faithful to the iconic silver series for more than three decades.

Each coin is meticulously struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver.

DESIGN

Within a plain border, the reverse design of the coin shows a kookaburra bird perched on a tree branch. On the branch below the bird, the designer’s initials EM, for Elise Martinson. Below right, a small letter P is the mint mark of the Perth Mint. The reverse also features the inscriptions “THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA” and “1OZ. 999 SILVER”, as well as a 2010 year-date.

The obverse of the coin features the Ian-Rank Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and 1 DOLLAR denomination.

ABOUT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint, located in Perth, Western Australia, is one of the oldest and most prestigious mints in the world, with a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century. It was established in 1899 as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint in response to the discovery of rich gold deposits in Western Australia.
