2011 Australian Koala 1oz Silver Coin

Depicting one of Australia’s most beloved animals, the Australian koala silver coins pay tribute to our rich wildlife.

Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

DESIGN

Each coin portrays a koala resting on a gum tree branch with its baby next to it. The coin incorporates the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN KOALA’, The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the coin’s weight, purity and year-date.

The coin’s obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizbeth II, and the monetary denomination.

ABOUT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint, located in Perth, Western Australia, is one of the oldest and most prestigious mints in the world, with a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century. It was established in 1899 as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint in response to the discovery of rich gold deposits in Western Australia. Its primary purpose was to refine gold mined in the region and to mint gold sovereigns and half sovereigns for use throughout the British Empire.
