The 2022 Malta Knights of the Past 1oz silver coin is the second commemorative coin created thanks to the close cooperation between the Central Bank of Malta and Germania Mint. The series of unique coins in a modern way refers to the traditions of the Order of Malta and its fortunes in the history of Europe. The collection will be the result of a collaboration, combining superior minting and precious metals quality, with the artistic vision, marketing and distribution of both institutions.
The 2022 Malta Knights of the Past 1oz .9999 Silver Coin has a limited world wide mintage of 15,000.
DESIGN
The reverse depicts the Knights of Malta in confrontation with the Ottoman Empire invaders, during the Great Siege of Malta in 1565 – the most important battle in the island’s history and one of the key ones for Europe. It features a knight of Malta face to face with a soldier of the Ottoman Empire in full attire with hands on their weapons. The background features ships on the water on their way to the island of Malta. The monetary denomination of 5 Euro is displayed as well as the coins namesake “KNIGHTS OF THE PAST” presented at the top.
The obverse presents the Malta national coat of arms on a shield, held by a Maltese knight. The knight is in full armour with a chain mail pattern on the background. The coins weight, purity and 2022 year-date can be seen as well as “MALTA” at the top.
PRESENTATION
Each individual coin is presented in a protective acrylic capsule inside of a Knights of the Past themed blister packaging, accompanied by a NON-numbered certificate of authenticity.
