2024 $1 Australia’s Most Dangerous – Tiger Snake 1oz .999 Silver Bullion Coin
The Royal Australian Mint’s “Australia’s Most Dangerous” Series has had four successful releases including the Redback Spider, Great White Shark, Desert Scorpion and Box Jellyfish. The Tiger Snake is the fifth release in the series, which include a $1 1 oz Silver Investment Coin and a $100 1 oz Gold Investment Coin.
HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE
The Tiger Snake inhabits much of southern Australia and is known for its striking black and yellow bands, however some Tiger Snakes are without these bold markings. The dark bands allow the snakes to better absorb heat during the short growing season. If threatened, Tiger Snakes can become aggressive, and their bite releases toxic venom, which can be fatal to humans.
Impressively, Tiger Snakes can swim and climb. They can remain submerged underwater for up to nine minutes and have also been found up to 10 metres above ground. They frequently inhabit watery areas including dams, creeks, swamps and wetlands.
Struck by Royal Australian Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has a mintage of 25,000.
DESIGN
The reverse features a Tiger Snake in a striking pose amongst the grasses. The inscription “TIGER SNAKE” as well as the coin’s weight and fineness are displayed on the reverse.
The coin’s obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark, the 2024 year-date as well as the monetary denomination.

This is one of the very best coins I have seen. Goes well with the others in the set.
