VALKYRIES

What awaits us after death? The Norse warriors were certain that they would meet the Valkyries on the other side. These beautiful goddesses, daughters of Odin – the god of war and warriors, would carry the heroes to the afterlife, to Valhalla. There the brave heroes fought battles and their attendants served them at the feast table. Apart from that, however, they decided the fate of the combatants – they sent them to death, gave them life, announced defeat or victory.

The exceptionally beautiful golden-haired virgins wore shining helmets and armour and rode winged horses and wolves. Their weapons were spears and shields, which contrasted strongly with the delicate white robes. The Valkyries series will pay tribute to the female Germanic warriors who bravely faced the enemies they encountered. Their names are full of symbolism, which we will try to present on the coins in the most interesting way, with characteristic for us care and attention to detail.

THIRD OF THE SERIES – SOLVEIG

Introducing Solveig, the third coin in the Valkyries series from Germania Mint. 2024 Valkyries: Solveig refers to the Germanic goddesses, daughters of Odin, who, according to Germanic mythology, supported the bravest warriors who fell in battle. Solveig symbolizes the summer awakening, and with her comes a new beginning.

DESIGN

The obverse depicts Solveig, the Sun goddess, is accompanied by a fearless and courageous bear. The Valkyrie herself wields an axe in her hand, and is clad in leather skirt and straps that wrap around her body, as well as iron epaulettes and bracelets. She is adorned with the Rune of Sowilo – a symbol of warmth and energy, allowing her to be born again in glory. Also includes the inscription “SOLVEIG” at the top.

The reverse presents a combination of Germania Mint’s characteristic double-headed eagle, with the goddess’s animal – a bear. The shield also incorporates the weight, fineness, monetary denomination, 2024 year-date and Germanic runes.

Each 2024 Valkyries – Solveig 1oz silver bullion coin is presented in a protective capsule and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Certificate of authenticities are NOT numbered.
