2025 60th Anniversary of the Royal Australian Mint Mintmark and Privy Mark Four Coin Set

Celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Royal Australian Mint, a landmark of innovation and history. Since its grand opening in 1965, the Mint has been a symbol of Australia’s economic independence and craftsmanship. This milestone commemorates six decades of excellence in coin production, reflecting our rich heritage and the pioneering spirit that continues to shape our future.

Opened in 1965 by HRH Prince Philip, the Mint was established to produce Australia’s decimal currency, marking a significant shift towards economic independence. Located in Canberra, it was the first mint in Australia not to operate as a branch of the British Royal Mint, symbolising a new era for the nation.

Over six decades, the Mint has become a leader in coin production, producing billions of coins and has supplied coins to over 30 countries. Its commitment to excellence is reflected in numerous international awards, recognising achievements in design, technology, and craftsmanship across various categories. These accolades highlight the Mint’s reputation for innovation and quality.

Beyond currency, the Mint plays a vital role in commemorating Australia’s heritage through special coin programs that honour the nation’s diverse culture, historical events and significant milestones. From celebrating indigenous art to marking pivotal moments in Australian history, these coins server as both currency and storytelling mediums, connecting Australians with their rich heritage.

Each coin is struck by the Royal Australian Mint from AlBr and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.

DESIGN

Each coin’s reverse depicts a stylised view of a coin press, as seen from above. Different aspects of the Royal Australian Mint story are also represented as well as the inscriptions “ROYAL AUSTRALAIN MINT”, years of operation “1965-2025” and individual mintmark / privy mark. Each coin has their own respesctive mintmark or privy mark – ‘C’ mintmark, ‘S’, ‘M’ and ‘B’ privy marks.

The coin’s obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, the monetary denomination and the 2025 year-date.
