To mark the Lunar Year of the Goat in 2027, the Royal Australian Mint proudly presents this stunning silver proof coin. The reverse design depicts a goat against a backdrop of persimmons, which symbolise prosperity and good fortune. Meanwhile, an ornate representation of the lunar calendar borders the King’s effigy on the coin’s obverse.

The Goat is the eighth of the twelve signs in the Chinese zodiac. According to legend, twelve animals participated in a race across a river to allow the Jade Emperor to establish the order of the zodiac signs. The Goat finished in eighth place, followed by the Monkey and the Rooster; the three animals had worked together to cross the river on a raft.

People born in the Year of the Goat are said to be creative and compassionate. Famous international Goats include entrepreneur and philanthropist Bill Gates, tennis player Carlos Alcaraz and musicians Norah Jones and Ed Sheeran. Well-known Australian Goats include actress Nicole Kidman and musician Tina Arena.

Each coin is struck by the Royal Australian Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 with a mintage of 7,500.

DESIGN

The reverse depicts a gentle goat against a backdrop of persimmons, which symbolise prosperity and good fortune. The reverse also includes the inscriptions “YEAR OF THE GOAT” and “羊” – the traditional Chinese character for goat, as well as the coins weight and fineness.

The obverse of each coin bears the Lunar calendar wheel, rotated so that the goat is shown at the top. The obverse also features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III sculpted by Daniel Thorne, as well as the monetary denomination and 2027 year-date.

PRESENTATION

Each coin comes encapsulated inside of a black Royal Australian Mint display case presented in a red Year of the Goat shipper. Each coin comes accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
