The Perth Mint is excited to release this new 1oz gold bullion coin featuring the Australian Emu.
Australia’s largest bird, the emu cannot fly, but its powerful legs can propel it across the continent’s dry plains at speeds up to 50 kilometres an hour. Emus’ primitive feathers, which resemble coarse hair, help them survive the extreme changes in temperature that can be experienced in the Australian outback.
Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure gold and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the Australian Emu 2021 1oz Gold Bullion Coin.
The coin’s reverse depicts a mother and baby emu in an outback landscape. Also included is the inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN EMU’, The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark, the weight and fineness, and the 2021 year-date.
The coin’s obverse bears the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.
Each coin’s reverse includes a security feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter within the design. It is only detectable under a magnifying glass.
The Australian Emu 2021 1oz Gold Bullion Coin is presented in an individual acrylic capsule.
