2022 $100 Lunar Year of the Tiger 1oz .9999 Gold Domed Proof Coin
This prestigious 2022 $100 Gold Proof Domed Coin celebrates the Year of the Tiger. Coins are a traditional gift for Lunar New Year, which is celebrated worldwide. This magnificent coin features the proud Tiger, astride a rocky outcrop, surrounded by pine branches, symbolizing strength. The Lunar calendar is presented on the obverse, rotated with the Tiger at the top.
The Tiger is the third of twelve signs in the Chinese Zodiac. According to legend the Jade Emperor invited the animals to race across a swift river to determine their position in the zodiac. The confident Tiger was a likely contender to win, but kept getting swept downstream by the strong currents. Showing the determination and strength synonymous with those born under the sign, the Tiger finally made it ashore behind the Rat and Ox.
In 2022, we honour specifically the Water Tiger. People born under this sign are said to be confident, curious and intelligent. Well-known people born under the year of the Tiger include Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, performer Lady Gaga and Australia’s ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin.
