2022 The Gangsters – Bonnie & Clyde 2oz Silver Ultra High Relief Antiqued Coin
This incredible high relief silver coin is the second in a new four coin series – “The Gangsters” – featuring famous gangsters of history. The 2oz silver high relief coin commemorates the most famous couple of American gangsters, Bonnie Parker (1910-1934) and Clyde Barrow (1909-1934).
The couple and their gang was mostly known for bank robberies, however they also rob stores, gas stations or funeral homes while travelling through America. Policemen were permanently chasing them across America, they were very often under fire and had to keep running and constantly change their location.
After series of robberies and murders Bonnie and Clyde were finally ambushed and shot to death on May 23, 1934 in Bienville Parish, Louisiana.
The couple and their gang are believed to have murdered at least nine law enforcement officers and four civilians.
DESIGN
The obverse of the coin depicts a gunfight between against the duo Bonnie & Clyde against the police. Bonnie is holding 2 revolvers in hands in two opposite directions, while Clyde holds a shotgun. There are also 3 policemen in the background who hold them at gunpoint apart from the car they were using during robberies. There is a bullet hole in the bottom right and finally the inscription “BONNIE & CLYDE” at the top of the coin.
The reverse of the coin features the cylinder of an 8 shot 9mm revolver. Four bullets can be seen loaded into the cylinder with each one being denoted by a gilded casing with 9mm stamped into the back. The bullet hole also doubles as an open chamber in the cylinder on the reverse. The reverse also includes the public Seal of Niue with the 5 dollar monetary denomination and 2022 year-date.
Each coin has the individualised serial number inscribed onto the bottom edge of the coin.
