2023 $1 Year of the Rabbit Uncirculated Two Coin Set – AlBr
To celebrate the Lunar Year of the Rabbit, the Royal Australian Mint has released this 2023 $1 Uncirculated Two-Coin Set featuring the decent and elegant Rabbit and the Lunar calendar wheel. The set is designed to appeal to collectors or those seeking an auspicious and traditional gift for Lunar New Year.
The Rabbit is the fourth of the twelve signs in the Chinese Zodiac. According to legend, the moon goddess Chang’e has a rabbit as her pet, with the belief that it is the only creature amiable enough to match the goddess’ noble beauty. It is also believed that the Rabbit is the incarnation of the moon goddess herself and is always a symbol of pureness and auspiciousness.
People born in the Year of the Rabbit are said to be noble, elegant and lovely. Famous Rabbits include Queen Victoria, Albert Einstein, actors Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt, sportsmen Tiger Woods and David Beckham and Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson, as well as astronaut Andy Thomas.
Struck by Royal Australian Mint, these coins are issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and have a mintage of 30,000.
DESIGN
The first coins reverse depicts the elegant and lovely rabbit with the inscriptions “YEAR OF THE RABBIT” and the Chinese character for rabbit. The second coins reverse depicts the lunar calendar wheel, rotated so that this year the rabbit takes the pride of place.
The obverse of each coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark as well as the monetary denomination and 2022 year-date.
PRESENTATION
These coins are packaged in an auspicious red and gold card and sleeve.
