2023 $5 Mini Money Emu 1/2 gram (0.5g) .9999 Frosted Uncirculated Gold Coin
Among our distinctive wildlife, the Emu is perhaps second only to the kangaroo as most recognisably Australian, found across much of the country and displayed on the historic Coat of Arms.
A majestic Emu features on the Royal Australian Mint’s new 2023 $5 half gram coin, the third of the Mini Money series of collectable and investment gold coins.
Towering to nearly two metres, Australia’s flightless bird, the Emu, ranks in size second only to the African Ostrich. Emus – depicted on the Royal Australian Mint’s new Mini Money $5 half gram gold coin – are also second only to Kangaroos and maybe Koalas as most recognizable of Australia’s distinctive wildlife.
Indigenous people dined on Emus and their eggs. Emus are found across Australia but are less common along the populated East Coast.
Their relationship with farmers hasn’t always been congenial and in 1932, wheat growers in Western Australia called in the Army to deal with Emu mobs threatening their crops.
Soldiers armed with machine-guns inflicted not that many casualties in what is now referred to as the Emu War.
Each coin is struck by the Royal Australian Mint from from 0.5g of 99.99% pure gold and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The Royal Australian Mint will release no more than 5,000 of the 2023 Mini Money Emu 1/2gm Gold Coin.
