2024 $1 Out of this World – Deep Space Four Coin Mintmark and Privy Mark Set – AlBr
The Royal Australian Mint is proud to collaborate with the Australian Space Agency on the Out of this World – Australia in Space coin program. Working across government, industry and academia to advance Australia’s position in the global space economy, the Agency is at the heart of space in Australia. Australia has several advantages that make us a great place to do space. Areas where Australia has a competitive edge or strategic interest are many and varied, including positioning, navigation and timing; earth observation; communications technologies, services and much more.
Australia is going to the Moon! An Aussie designed and built rover will be part of NASA’s Artemis program in the second half of the 2020s. The rover will be operated from a control station in Australia and collect lunar soil from which NASA will try to extract oxygen. This will see Australia play a direct role in NASA’s mission to return to the Moon and on to Mars.
Each coin is struck by the Royal Australian Mint from AlBr and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
DESIGN
Each coin’s reverse depicts a stylised scene featuring an Australian astronaut exploring space with an insert paying homage to the WRESAT-1, Australia’s first satellite. The set consists of four coins with separate marks, one with a ‘C’ Mintmark – the other three having either a ‘S’, ‘M’ or ‘B’ privy mark.
Each coin’s obverse depicts the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, the monetary denomination and the 2024 year-date.
PRESENTATION
All four coins are displayed inside of a space themed plastic display case.
