2026 St George and the Dragon 1oz Gold Coin

The year 1526 marked a significant moment for British coins, as it was the first time St George, the patron saint of England, appeared on the reverse of English coins. Struck on the George noble, the saint was portrayed battling a dragon.

For 2026, the third coin in The Royal Mint’s legendary St George and the Dragon Bullion Collection features a brand-new interpretation of the saint battling the mythical creature. Created by coin designer Sandra Deiana, the dynamic portrayal pays tribute to the 500th anniversary of the legendary scene captured on British coinage.

The 2026 St George and the Dragon 1oz Gold Bullion Coin is struck by The Royal Mint from 99.99% pure gold and is issued as legal tender.

DESIGN

The reverse design features a modern reimagining of St George battling the Dragon. The reverse also features the inscription “TALI DICATA SIGNO MENS FLVCTVARI NEQVIT” that appeared on the George noble, the English coin upon which St George first appeared in 1526. Also includes the weight, fineness and 2026 year-date in a repeating fashion around the rim of the coin.

The obverse of each coin bears the official coinage portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by designer Martin Jennings as well as the monetary denomination.
