2022 Australian Dolphin Series – Dusky Dolphin 1oz .999 Silver Bullion Coin

These coins are the fourth instalment in the Royal Australian Mint’s ‘Australian Dolphin Series’ and features the Dusky Dolphin (Lagenorhynchus obscurus).

The Dusky Dolphin favours cool climate waters and can be found along Australia’s southern coastline and in the waters off Tasmania. It is known to be the most athletic dolphin species, often seen leaping from the water and executing impressive flips and spins. A social creature, this species of dolphin is often found in groups of 20 but has been seen in groups of up to 1,000.

The Dusky Dolphin is easily recognised by the two blazes of white running back on the body from the dorsal fin to the tail. The areas in between have thorn-shaped patches of dark colour.

Dusky Dolphins can sometimes be confused with other members of dolphin species, such as the Common Dolphin.

DESIGN

Complete with brilliant uncirculated finish, the coin’s reverse depicts three Dusky Dolphins leaping from calm water as with the sun partially eclipsed by the horizon in the background. The reverse also features the inscriptions ‘DUSKY DOLPHIN” and the coin’s weight and purity.

The obverse features the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and the year-date.

PRESENTATION

Each coin is presented in a protective capsule. Multiples of 10 are presented in a sealed roll.
