2023 50c 60th Anniversary of the Bathurst 1000 Coloured Coin in Card – AlBr
Australia’s ‘Great Race’ at Bathurst reaches a special milestone in 2023, the 60th anniversary of its first running in 1963 at the world-famous Mount Panorama circuit. Synonymous with being a test of driver and machine against the challenging circuit and built on the rivalry between Holden and Ford, the race has made drivers and their cars into legends.
An Australian sporting institution, the Great Race has provided a true endurance test of driver and machine, as the best racers in the country – and indeed the world – have challenged the mighty Mountain.
Built on the back of the legendary Holden and Ford rivalry, the annual race has made household names of Peter Brock, Allan Moffat, Dick Johnson and so many more, including the fearless women who have challenged the race. From its beginnings in the 1960s as a 500-mile race for standard production cars, the Great Race has evolved into an annual multi-million-dollar battle between purpose-built, millimetre-perfect V8-powered Supercars.
Globally recognised as one of the world’s greatest motorsport events, the Bathurst 1000 remains an annual focal point for racers and fans alike as an iconic event on the calendar. The Royal Australian Mint is proud to mark six decades of Australia’s most famous race.
Struck by Royal Australian Mint, the coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has a mintage of 40,000.
