VALKYRIES

What awaits us after death? The Norse warriors were certain that they would meet the Valkyries on the other side. These beautiful goddesses, daughters of Odin – the god of war and warriors, would carry the heroes to the afterlife, to Valhalla. There the brave heroes fought battles and their attendants served them at the feast table. Apart from that, however, they decided the fate of the combatants – they sent them to death, gave them life, announced defeat or victory.

The exceptionally beautiful golden-haired virgins wore shining helmets and armour and rode winged horses and wolves. Their weapons were spears and shields, which contrasted strongly with the delicate white robes. The Valkyries series will pay tribute to the female Germanic warriors who bravely faced the enemies they encountered. Their names are full of symbolism, which we will try to present on the coins in the most interesting way, with characteristic for us care and attention to detail.

SECOND OF THE SERIES – OSTARA

Introducing Ostara, the second coin in the Valkyries series from Germania Mint. 2023 Valkyries: Ostara Valhalla 1oz Silver coin continues the collection of Germanic goddesses, daughters of Odin, who according to Germanic mythology supported the bravest warriors who fell in battle. Ostara symbolizes spring awakening and bloom. With her comes freshness, light and joy.

DESIGN

The obverse depicts Ostara, the goddess of the victory of life over death and is accompanied by a deer and a hare, symbols of fertility. According to beliefs, while walking in the snow, the Valkyrie found an injured bird and transformed it into a more cold-resistant animal – a rabbit. Ostara herself is clad in an airy white gown and floral garland. Her neckline is decorated with the Berkanan rune – responsible for vitality and regeneration, female fertility and beauty. The obverse also features the inscription “OSTARA”.

The reverse presents a design that combines Germania Mint’s characteristic double-headed eagle, with the goddesses animal – a deer. The shield, which includes the year of issue, metal alloy and denomination, features Germanic runes.

The Valhalla edition features gilding as well as ruthenium plating and has a holographic layer on Ostara’s wreath of flowers on her head.

PRESENTATION

Each 2023 Valkyries – Ostara Valhalla 1oz silver coin is presented in a protective capsule and is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity in specially themed vibrant green packaging.
