The Morgan Silver Dollar was arguably the first, great coin minted by the United States Mint. Originally in circulation from 1878 to 1904, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a highly collectible coin to this date. The Great American Mint and Refinery revives the imagery of the Morgan Silver dollar on its new 1 oz Great American Mint Morgan Silver bar.

Morgan Silver Dollars were first introduced in the United States in 1878. George T. Morgan created the design on the obverse face of the original coins during five sittings with Anna Willess Williams serving as his muse. After countless hours serving as the model, Morgan had a final depiction of Lady Liberty as inspired by Williams. The left-profile image of Lady Liberty appeared on the obverse of the coins for three decades. On the reverse of the original Morgan Silver Dollars was a heraldic eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, and was also designed by Morgan.

On the primary face of the 1 oz Great American Mint Morgan Silver Bar is the obverse image from the original Morgan Silver Dollar. Lady Liberty’s face is seen inside a round which is inset into the bar. Below the image of the round is the weight, purity, and metal content of the bar. On the opposite side of the silver bar is an alternating design set at an angle. One image is interlocking tubes, while the other lists the weight, purity, and metal content of the bar.
